Camping out in the great outdoors to me means freedom from being locked away indoors all week. I love the wilderness, especially the lack of din and traffic - it’s just you and the woods and the wildlife. If you believe in nirvana then this has to be the closest thing we can experience to it in our current form of existance. If you know how to look after yourself in the great outdoors and you have the right equipment, camping is more like a nice hotel than you might think.

Like all things you buy, camping equipment can be classified as quality or crap. Unless you know exactly what you are looking for then make sure you buy only from reputable camping supply stores.

If you’re starting from scratch, equipping yourself for a camping adventure will probably cost between three to five hundred dollars for the bare essentials in equipment. You can always buy just the bare minimum and make do with accessories from your home to start off, and when you have saved up some money, you can add on some equipment you find you can’t live without. For those who have a bit more money to spare, fully kitting out with all the luxuries for an ultra-comfortable camping adventure will probably ring in at about a thousand dollars. Keep in mind that no matter what you buy, camping equipment is a long-term investment and you’ll reap the rewards for years to come, which make the initial spending easier to bear.

Family camping adventures are a simple, natural way of providing this quality time for your children. The fast-paced action of media and the computer games that are played for hours at a time are gone, left well behind at home and replaced with the great outdoors, trees and sometimes even a lake or beach. The novelty of having absolute freedom a camping trip provides can often be exhilarating for kids, and more often than not, parents won’t hear much complaint as the camping site and its surroundings are scoped out and explored.
